New Ross Greenway Sculptures

2023

In collaboration with Aoife Banville

Reimagining the steel railway tracks in New Ross, a series of 2 sculptures was created by Elements of Action and Aoife Banville along the Greenway. The concept of these pieces was informed as a reminder of the routes and journeys taken by the thousands of people who traveled and worked on the railway in the past. Investigation and the reusing of the historic railway tracks in the new contemporary setting of the greenway was a key vision of the project. The physical materiality of the pieces work both spatially along the new greenway but reflect and remember the cultural importance of the railways to the town.

Modeling sizes, shapes, weights & design of foundations was key in the delivery of the two sculptures - one with 5 uprights and the second with 3 steel uprights.

This piece was commissioned by Wexford County Council Culture Team in partnership with South East Greenway under the ‘Back to our Routes and Roots’ project, funded under the Creative Ireland project and delivered by Esther Gerrard & Ed Coveney of Elements for Action in collaboration with Local Artist Aoife Banville.
